Clean and Simple Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

Clean and Simple Watercolor Pumpkins

Today I made a clean and simple watercolor card for you. A clean and simple or CAS card is one that has a lot of open or white space, minimal layers, and few or no embellishments — Clean and Simple.

Watercolor Background

For the background of my card I used one of my favorite watercolor techniques. It’s so easy — once you try it you’ll want to use it all the time! I lightly spritz a piece of watercolor paper with water, scribble on an acrylic block with Tombow Dual Brush Markers, spritz that with water and press the watercolor paper onto it.

TIP: If you are using white cardstock instead of watercolor paper—don’t spritz the cardstock. It absorbs to much water and gets yucky.

Once my background was thoroughly dry, I stamped the sentiment. It’s from the Neat and Tangled Nuts About You stamp set; an exclusive STAMPtember stamp set over at Simon Says Stamp. Isn’t it the perfect fall sentiment?

Watercolor Pumpkins

I stamped my pumpkins on watercolor paper with Hero Arts Black Dye Ink and let it dry completely. I used Tombow Brush Markers and a watercolor brush pen to color them in. To achieve a watercolor look I applied some color to my image with the marker and then used the watercolor brush pen to push the color around.

TIPS:

  • Don’t use Memento ink for watercoloring. It works great with Copics but bled when I tried it for water coloring—even after heat setting.
  • Allow the dye ink to dry completely or better yet, set it with a heat tool before watercoloring.
  • The watercolor brush pen holds water in the barrel. To release more water for a lighter look simply give the pen a little squeeze—just a little one, or you’ll end up with a puddle. 🙂

A Challenge or Two or Three:

Today I am entering my card in three challenges the Sugar Pea Designs Mix it Up Challenge, Little Tangles Challenge 73: Coloring, and the CAS Watercolor Challenge. There are some great cards over at the challenges—be sure to check them out!

Neat and Tangled: Bold Stripes and Bold Brew

Neat and Tangled Bold Brew

Coffee and Fall are two of my favorite things, so today I made another card for the 2016 Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop. For inspiration I used the sketch from Neat and Tangled Challenge #72.

Neat and TANGLED 72-sketch-2

The black and white striped paper from Recollections was perfect for the background of this card. I love the bold graphic look of the stripes with the layered ovals. I cut out the ovals using My Favorite Things Inside Out Stitched Oval Die-namics. These nesting dies are ideal for layering!

Neat and Tangled Bold Brew Detail

The image and sentiment are from Neat and Tangled Big Bold Brew set. Such a cute set with great sentiments. A must have for every coffee lover! I colored in the cute little guy with Copics and added a tiny orange heart under the sentiment for a finishing touch.

Pumpkin Spice Coffee Lovers Blog Hop and MOJO 466

Neat and Tangled Big Bold Brew Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Today I am playing along with MOJO Monday Sketch Challenge 466 and the 2016 Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop. My card keeps to the main idea of the MOJO sketch, but I flipped it — putting the pennants on the right instead of the left.

The focal point of my card is this cute little coffee guy from the Big Bold Brew by Neat and Tangled. He is so sweet — bringing me my daily dose of Pumpkin Spice. 😉 . I colored him in with Copics and cut him out with the coordinating Big Bold Brew die.

The sentiment from the Neat and Tangled STAMPtember set is perfect for my Fall card (and Pumpkin Spice obsession). I created a landscape for my coffee dude with the MFT Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics and continued it onto the pennant panel. Both panels are mounted on a piece of Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid paper.

STAMPtember Neat & Tangled: Pumpkin Spice

Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember: Neat and Tangled Nuts About You

Happy Fall everyone! It’s officially here — my favorite time of the year. Now some cooler weather would be nice!

Today I have an adorable Fall card made with the Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember exclusive from Neat and Tangled: Nuts About You stamp set and dies. I’m so lucky I was able to get it, because it sold out super fast! It’s so cute and has the perfect sentiment to compliment my Fall obsession with Pumpkin Spice!

Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember: Neat and Tangled Nuts About You

For the background I used Lawn Fawn’s new Perfectly Plaid Fall paper. It’s available in a 6 x 6 Pack, a 12 x 12 pack, and each individual pattern is also available in 12″ x 12″ packs of 12 which will be great for my card making classes.

This is the first time I’ve used Lawn Fawn paper and it has a really nice weight — about the sames as Stampin’ Up! although it only has a pattern on one side.

Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember: Neat and Tangled Nuts About You

I stamped the images with Memento ink and colored them in with Copics. I’m just getting started with Copics, but so far so good! In fact I just ordered some more colors from Blick Art Supplies. They had by far the most reasonable price – only $5.24 – almost $3 less than anywhere else I checked. You can find the link to the Copics at Blick Art Supplies below.

After coloring everything in, I cut the images out with the Neat and Tangled coordinating dies for perfect cuts with just the right amount of white border! I used My Favorite Things stitched Die-namics to cut out the oval and rectangle elements. I am loving the stitched look! It definitely adds more interest.
