So Very Blessed: Embossed Resist Technique

Hi Guys! I hope you love today’s card as much as I do! Pink and gold is such a stunning combination. To create my card, I used a resist technique with watercolor and heat embossing. The white embossing really makes the sentiment pop and I added a gold foil mat and gold thread for the perfect touch of elegance.

The sentiment is from the Taylored Expressions So Very Blessed stamp set. I think the scripty “blessed” makes a beautiful focal point and the “by your friendship” is one of 5 supporting phrases included in the set.

TE So Very Blessed by You Friendship Card

I started my card by stamping the sentiment on watercolor paper using VersaMark ink and the Misti Precision Stamping Tool. Then I sprinkled on white embossing powder and set it with a heat tool.

TIPS:

  • Rub a powder embossing bag over the paper before stamping so the embossing powder sticks only to the versa ink and not the oil from your fingerprints.
  • Use the Misti Stamping tool for perfect placement of your stamped image. This also allows you to stamp the image multiple times in the exact same place…perfect for mass production or fixing an incomplete stamped image.

When the embossing cooled, I spritzed the watercolor paper with water until it was fairly wet. Next, I pressed an acrylic block onto an ink pad and then smooshed the inked block onto the wet paper. I used a paper towel to dry the block between each “ink up” and color change.

TIP:  Hybrid ink and waterproof dye ink does not work for this watercolor technique. I tried it with Stampin’ Up! Classic Ink, My Favorite Things Hybrid Ink, and Hero Arts Shadow Ink—only the Stampin’ Up! ink gave good results.

NOTE: Background ink colors are Stampin’ Up! Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Rich Razzleberry.

After I was finished applying the ink, I flicked on some Gold Wink Of Stella by squeezing the brush and flicking it against the cap.

When everything was dry, I mounted the watercolor paper to gold foil cardstock. I wanted to add some height so I mounted it on a piece of craft foam cut 1/8″ smaller than the gold foil.

I applied some adhesive with my tape runner to an A2 white card base and attached some looped, gold thread. Then I attached the sentiment piece  at a slightly wonky angle for some added interest.

I was inspired to created today’s card by the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Emboss It and the AAA Challenge: Resist Technique.
