Craftin Desert Divas Guest Designer – Back to School with Live, Love, Plan

Hi Everyone! For my fourth and final project as a Guest Designer for Craftin Desert Divas, I have used the Live, Love, Plan stamps to create this fun back to school card. And since it is a back to school themed card, it is perfect for the Paper Players Back to School theme challenge.

For the background of my card, I applied Distress Ink to a 5″ x 3 3/4″ piece of white cardstock with a blending tool. Then I randomly stamped the owl, pencil and books in Memento Black ink.  I mounted this on a 5 1/4″ x 4″ black cardstock mat and mounted this on an A2 white card base.

Next, I stamped the little pencil troll and the sentiment on a piece of Copic friendly cardstock and cut it out with an oval die. I colored in the troll “watercolor” style by using my Copics and a waterbrush filled with alcohol.

NOTE: To use this “watercolor” technique simply scribble with your Copics on a piece of craft plastic and then pick up the ink with your alcohol filled waterbrush. – See my post on the CardMaker Magazine Blog for detailed instructions.

When my colored image was dry, I mounted it on a slightly larger black cardstock oval and attached this to my card.

Hero Arts Layering Seahorse – Wishing You Oceans of Joy

Hero Arts Layering Seahorse Card
Today I am playing along with the Paper Players Challenge #353. It’s been a long time and this is one of my favorite challenge sites! I was happy to see that this week’s theme is CAS: Summer Fun in the Water — I just got the Hero Arts Layering Seahorse stamps and dies and they go perfectly with this theme!

Paper Players Challenge #353

This set includes stamps to create dimensional, multi layered, images of shells, starfish and of course the seahorse. The seahorse has 3 stamps — a base layer (with little detail), A middle layer (with more detail & shadows), and a top layer (with fine detail). I started by stamping the base layer in the lightest ink and worked my way to the top using darker ink on each layer.

TIP: Use second generation stamping or “stamping off” to get shade variations from a single ink pad. For the lightest shade simply ink up your stamp and then stamp off on scrap paper before stamping your good image. Because you removed some of the ink on scrap paper, the image will be lighter.

Hero Arts Layering Seahorse Detail

I blended Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers Distress ink and flicked on a few water drops to create an area for the seahorse to live. Then I stamped a shell and the starfish onto the blended area. Using my MISTI, I positioned my sentiment perfectly on my card front.

I cut out the seahorse with the coordinating die, mounted it my card with thin foam adhesive and added a some iridescent sequins for a little sparkle.

Happy Birthday with a Bold Sentiment

Today’s card features a bold “Happy Birthday” sentiment accompanied by a sweet bouquet of purple flowers. I am playing along with this week’s Paper Player’s Challenge to create a CAS (clean and simple) card with a sentiment as the focal point and this card hits the mark!

To create the bold sentiment, My Favorite Things All Occasions Sentiment stamp set was an easy choice. It has 9 different sentiments to fit almost any occasion. I stamped the bold “Happy Birthday” with Stampin’ Up! Old Olive ink on a 1″ wide strip of Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock.

TIP:  I like to use the 100lb cardstock for the base of my cards but the 80lb for layers…the heavier base gives my cards the support they need and the 80lb layers keeps them from becoming too heavy.

For the background of my card I mounted a piece of retired Stampin’ Up designer paper on a layer of SU Old Olive cardstock. The scallop circle was cut using the My Favorite Things Stitched Scallop Circles Die-namics and the flowers were cut with the Stitched Flowers Die-namics.

Both the stitched flower and stitched scallop circles are such pretty elements to add to a card…two of my faves!  For the final touch, I added a little bit of iridescent white sequins.

TIP: I use Glue Dots brand Micro Glue Dots for attaching sequins to cards. They are smaller than the regular glue dots and the perfect size for sequins and other small embellishments.

Besides the Paper Players Challenge, I am also playing along with the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge and the  “Less is More” CAS Challenge where the theme for this week is Alphabet. Why not head on over to the challenge blogs and play along too!
